Lopes Mendes Beach is located on the ocean side of Ilha Grande (Big Island), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. The beach stretches for 3 km and is characterized by fine white sand and shallow waters stirred by strong waves. The clear waters display various shades of blue. Despite being shallow and suitable for bathing, the strong waves attract many surfers. The beach is entirely uninhabited and bordered by lush restinga vegetation with many abricó trees.
